A MuseSounds issue: Muse Strings by the Muse Group, Arco and Pizzicato

• Jun 11, 2025 - 17:23

This is an issue that I have seen crop up in my MuseScore files for a couple of months now, but chosen to ignore and just "deal with it" hoping that it would be found and patched eventually, but that has not yet happened.

When using Muse Group's "Muse Strings" MuseSound from the MuseHub (yes the free one, being a student has it's downsides aha!), it appears that the strings seem to decide whenever they want in terms of when they use Pizzicato and Arco, as if they have a mind of their own.

Take, for example, the below viola line, marked with arco, and it does indeed match the arco requested! However, by the end of bar 39, the final quaver is played pizzicato, and this trend continues until the repeat. Following the repeat from bar 50, when arco is again attempted, the playback will be one note arco and the next pizzicato, alternating between the two.

The only "solution" I have found to fix the playback is to turn the entire section you want to be arco into one large slur, then turn off the visibility of it, although this is not very practical.

If this is an issue on my side that is hidden somewhere amongst the config that I need to fix, I'd love to know - but if not hopefully this gets rectified in the future.

Created a new file and brought the area from the images into it - same issue still appears. As with a couple other of the strings I've written with, appears to be when the note isn't leading to another note, and decides instead that the note should end as soon as possible

Two files attached - the first being a standard one, one with the temporary solution of an invisible slur.

I have tried both of these now, alongside with MS Basic sounds.

  • Applying a pizz at the start continues the pizz throughout, which is different from the arco, which does not keep persistent.
  • On Muse Strings Solo Strings, the issue persists
  • On MS Basic Viola the issue is fixed, so may be an issue with the sound / sound settings?
